Preschool Substitute Teacher

Energetic individuals needed to work as Preschool Substitute Teachers in a nationally accredited childcare center. This is not a full-time position but offers flexible hours. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a HS diploma or GED. Preference is given to applicants with experience working in a childcare environment.

Exceptional Children's Teacher

Barium Springs Home for Children has an opening for a Exceptional Children’s Teacher in Surry County.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Day Treatment Director, the Day Treatment Teacher develops and provides an alternative/treatment educational program for youth served by BSHC day treatment facility.  The teacher also focuses on teaching youth appropriate social skills, self-help skills, academic skills, and independent living skills utilizing the principles of the Teaching Family Model and the procedures developed by BSHC.  The teacher assists in the supervision of other recreational opportunities for the children in care. The teacher coordinates educational services with the sending school district and monitors and implements IEP requirements.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops and provides an individualized alternative educational program for every client served by BSHC Day treatment facility.
2. Evaluating students’ level of performance in order to prescribe suitable programming and evaluating their progress in meeting educational and social goals by testing, observation, behavior rating scales, and other means as appropriate. Conducting testing according to state, federal, and school district requirements.
3. Planning, developing, and revising classroom curriculum to meet the physical, emotional, creative, and educational needs of assigned students.
4. Uses accepted teaching practices as it relates to planning and implementation of each client’s educational goals.
5. Organizing class programs by preparing lesson plans and course outlines.
6. Assists in developing and implementing the service/treatment plan within a multidisciplinary treatment team (client and their family, involved agencies, therapist, psychiatrist, Behavioral Technicians, Program Consultant/Supervisor, therapist, other significant parties).
7. Develop and maintain a relationship with Local Education Agencies including the development/participation in Individualized Education Plans, transitions back to schools operated by the LEA, providing academic progress reports, etc.
8. Actively uses the Teaching-Family Model of care to respond to misbehavior and teach replacement skills with a focus on positive reinforcement as the most effective motivational tool.
9. Provides a classroom environment that facilitates learning.
10. In an effort to assist client with the management of various behavior problems related to mental health symptoms, teaches client appropriate social skills.
11. Continually observes and responds appropriately to interactions of client during academic, recreational, and leisure activities for appropriateness and safety.
12. Assists in maintaining the facility and classroom in a clean, safe and attractive manner.
13. Assists in making purchases for the school program (food, fuel, etc) under the guidance of the Program Director.
14. Performs routine administrative responsibilities including but not limited to: using a computer, typing reports, scheduling and attending meetings relative to client/program and treatment team needs, completing required treatment, educational, and service documentation, etc.
15. Maintains documentation including, but not limited to: academic records, attendance records, client treatment documentation, client progress notes, medication administration logs, consultation documentation, administrative memos, critical incident reports, family contact log, recreation/socialization log.
16. Follows all rules/statues of the State of North Carolina, Council on Accreditation, Mental Health and the Teaching-Family Association.
17. Responsibility is assumed for continuing educational and professional development and contributions are made to the professional growth of others.  Continuing education, etc. will be documented and copies provided to the personnel department to be kept in employee’s record.
18. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Minimum of a bachelors degree in an education field and preferably hold an Exceptional Children’s teaching license in the State of North Carolina.  Consideration may be given to individuals without a valid Teaching license if a time-limited plan can be developed for the procuring of the appropriate certification.

Substance Abuse Program Clinician

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will serve as a therapist/clinician for assigned substance abuse/mental health day treatment and level II group home.  Responsibilities will include participation in and leading of treatment planning and implementation of substance abuse programming, including training and clinical supervision of staff. This position will be responsible for all areas identified in the service definition as the responsibility of the licensed professional as well as other tasks identified by the Residential Director. 
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide individual, family and group therapy to clients using clinical models and modalities approved by the agency and the service definition for group home with 6 clients, day treatment with 6-12 clients and other specified program supports.
• Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, substance abuse assessments and crisis assessments.
• In collaboration with the program director and school personnel, provide support, training, and oversight of the clinical aspects of the program.
• Provide specified training/community substance abuse treatment sessions as needed.
• Participate in program and activity planning related to therapeutic activities and treatment.
• Participate in treatment planning and implementation including conducting/participating in Child and Family Teams, linking and referring clients/families to services, planning/conducting psychoeducational activities, and other programming as described in the service definition or by program director.
• Provide support and training to clients and staff related to behavioral and treatment strategies and interventions through the use of the Teaching Family Model and chosen substance abuse treatment model.
• Complete documentation required including notes, treatment plan, and billing when applicable.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
The position requires a Master Degree in a Human Service or related field plus one year of experience with a similar population.  The position also requires a valid NC licensure LCAS.  Additional CCS and/or LPC or LCSW preferred.

Substance Abuse Behavioral Technician / CSAC

Barium Springs Home for Children has an opening for a Substance Abuse Behavioral Technician / CSAC

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide clients with a therapeutic treatment environment by providing on-site supervision of the Substance Abuse Day Treatment program operations and staff.  Implement Barium approved model of care and all related aspects in the day treatment setting. Provide for a program that focuses on achieving developmentally appropriate functional gains and that works to reintegrate the individual back into school after addressing addiction and substance use/abuse issues.  Model and foster the moral development of clients.  Plan and implement therapeutic elements of the Day Treatment program including interventions and activities to support symptom stability, increase youth ability to cope, teach youth how to relate to others, provide support, sustain recovery and enhance the youth’s capacity to function in an inclusive setting or be maintained in community based services. Address alcohol and drug use, addiction issues, withdrawal, and secondary complications due to addiction. Work with school personnel, program staff and other professionals in facilitating implementation of client treatment plans.  Maintain the confidentiality of client and program information.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Implements the service/treatment plan developed by actively using approved model of care to respond to misbehavior and addiction issues, and teach replacement and recovery skills through group, family, and individual structured therapeutic activities and interventions.
2. Plan, coordinate and schedule program coverage and therapeutic treatment activities ensuring that staff to client supervision ratios are maintained at all times.
3. Responsible for the observation and daily supervision of the behavior technicians assigned to the program.
4. Monitors and submits program data, outcomes, and successes as part of a comprehensive Continuous Quality Improvement plan.
5. Operates programs using a strength based and family/client centered approach.
6. Participates in agency/department/treatment meetings
7. Maintains positive working relationships with youth, parents, school system, referral sources, other providers, etc.
8. Coordinate and implement service delivery and treatment with client, family, and all members of child and family team.
9. Other duties as assigned by supervisor

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree plus two years of experience working in a child/adolescent substance abuse treatment services.
Must be a certified alcoholism, drug abuse or substance abuse counselor or able to certify within 24 months of hire.
