His mother gave him up shortly after giving birth, and there were no relatives ready to take in a newborn baby.
About the Program
Barium Springs provides foster care for children who must live outside their own homes for a variety of reasons. Some children need foster care during a family crisis, while others need care because of abuse or neglect, and others need structure and support managing mental health and behavioral needs.
Homes are selected based n their ability to provide a safe, stable and nurturing environment for children. Children are placed in foster homes licensed and approved by the state and Barium Springs. Foster parents receive on-going training and support from foster care staff at Barium Springs. In addition to the care provided by the foster parents, children participating in our foster care program regularly receive case management, behavior support planning, counseling and crisis response.
With 325 children in foster homes last year, we offer Therapeutic and Family Foster Care as well as Intensive Therapeutic Foster Care to children in a wide geographical area. The following counties are where we currently have homes located (We can, however, serve children from other counties): Alamance, Alexander, Alleghany, Anson, Ashe, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland, Davidson, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Haywood, Iredell, Jackson, Lincoln, McDowell, Mecklenburg, Mitchel, Rowan, Transylvania, Watagua and Wilkes.
